How To Become An Affiliate

Becoming an affiliate is one of the easiest business propositions out there, which is why it is so quickly gaining in popularity. Businesses want to have as many affiliate marketers working for them as possible, after all, it's really just a form of free advertising. For this reasons, businesses make it very easy to sign up for an affiliate program. Find a program, sign up for free, and just like that you're an affiliate.

The most important part of affiliate marketing boils down to one word: relevancy. In order to be a successful affiliate, you need to choose partnership programs that correspond to the nature of your affiliate site. So if you are running a travel affiliate site, link to affiliate sites for airfare, travel packages, clothing, and other relevant sites. Linking to a pet product affiliate doesn't make so much sense.

This is core to why experienced affiliate marketers will have a stable of sites. They'll have their travel hub, pet hub, book hub, and so on. Some affiliate marketing links will cross over, for instance, everyone needs credit cards and even airfare deals could find a home on a pet site. The basic rule of thumb is that affiliate links should be on topic.

If you're just starting out, one method to starting an affiliate site is to thumb through affiliate marketing directories and see what affiliate marketing programs interest you: do they offer a good product, do they have good terms, do they have a good rating? You could then design your website around a particular type of product based on the affiliate program you have found in an affiliate directory. If you already have a running website, check directories for new affiliate marketing programs that correspond to the site.

At times, less is more. There are literally hundreds of affiliate deals out there with good terms and a good product. Don't just cram hundreds of links onto one page. Your affiliate links should be easy to read and access, and they should be organic: they should appear to be a part of the site, rather than an obvious moneymaking opportunity. The more relevant these affiliate sites are to the main theme of the site, the more likely it is web surfers will click on the link and make a purchase.

Making Money with Affiliate Programs

There is a strong misconception, primarily amongst those that are new to the internet, that the key to affiliate marketing and making money online is to simply put up a few web pages and embed some affiliate links. Perhaps this method worked in the early days of affiliate marketing, but with today's over saturation of the market it's a whole new ball game.

Before you start seeing any kind of affiliate earnings you will have to make it a habit to constantly review your marketing strategy. If you don't have a marketing strategy, then you need to stop what you're doing and put one together. The key to making money online isn't out of your reach, but it isn't exactly a cake walk either.

To put it simply, making money online with affiliate programs is a numbers game. There are billions of people around the globe who, just like you, have also heard about the wonders of affiliate marketing and are after the same thing you're after, highly targeted traffic.

People aren't going to visit your website just because it's live. The competition is fierce, to say the least. If you want traffic, you're going to have to work for it. You will need a marketing strategy.

What Happened to All the People on the Web?

To get people interested in your website, you have to grab their attention by giving them something useful.

So what is something useful you might ask.

That depends on your specific niche and your target market. If you run an entertainment website you might have success by offering free ring-tones or mp3's, if you run an online consulting business you'd probably be better off giving away an ebook that describes your services and why all online marketers need them.

Providing valuable content on a regular basis is only one small part of the overall process. To keep the traffic flowing to your pages you need to invest some time into creating a marketing strategy.

Your marketing strategy will be your master plan. Here's a list of some things you might include in it:

• Who you will target


• How you will reach your target audience


• When you will begin your marketing campaign


• Follow up procedures

I'll leave it at that for the sake of saving some time. Of course, you would need to get more detailed on exactly who your target market is, different tactics and venues you will use to advertise to your target market, etc...

Make a plan and stick with it.

Once you've got your marketing strategy all worked out you will need to devise a strategic plan for implementing it. You basically need to set up a series of tactics or actions that are geared towards meeting your marketing strategy's objective.

For example, one way to boost your company's web visibility is by uploading custom videos to YouTube. You need to set a schedule specifying how often videos should be uploaded, the approx length of the videos, target topics, logo placement, and whatever else you can think of... the more detailed your schedule, the better.

You should repeat the above schedule setting process for every item in your marketing strategy. Perhaps you included forum posting, blogging, and social networking in your marketing strategy. You can imagine how quickly it can become a real headache for you to keep up with all of these activities. Keeping all of your activities scheduled will help you keep your sanity, and will allow you to make better decisions when it comes time to revise your marketing strategy.

Now for the fun part, Stick With Your Plan! This is where many people fail, especially when working from home. It's your schedule and your ship. You are the captain of your own destiny (as they often say). There will be no boss to babysit you, no corporate time tracking system to determine whether or not you took an hour or an hour and 57 minutes for lunch. If you are serious about affiliate marketing you will need to treat it like a business. After all, that's really what it is. It's all up to you my friend, you can spend 7 to 8 hours of your life every day watching "cool" videos on YouTube, or you can spend 45 minutes creating a video and 5 minutes uploading it to YouTube. The tools are there, you decide how you want to use them.

Keyword Research Tips.

Researching keywords prior to writing your articles has proven to be an effective method of ranking high with the search engines. I've read all kinds of tips and advice on many different websites, and the one main idea that always sticks out is: put your readers first!

Sure, you want to study your keywords and the competition that exists for them, but that doesn't mean you have to go write an entire article full of em!

The next time you look something up in your favorite search engine, take a couple of minutes to read through some of the articles on the first results page...

You'll notice that some articles are enticing while others don't seem to grab your attention at all...

Obviously, the sites that you want to pay attention to are the ones that reeled you in and kept you there. This is, in my opinion, one of the best methods of studying keywords, key phrases , and basically everything SEO related.

The sites that appear on the first 3 pages of your search query already have what you want, a high ranking web page on the SERP's. So why not study them?

If you want to learn about making money with free blogs, you study blogs like Mikes Money Making Mission. If you want to become an eBay PowerSeller or learn about DropShipping, you study guys like Mike Enos.

So naturally, when you want to learn why certain sites rank high in the search engines and how keywords are used on those sites, you study high ranking websites!

Remember, the sites you need to pay close attention to are the ones that not only rank high, but that also grab your attention and entice you to read past the third paragraph. Your research on high ranking websites will be much more fruitful if you do this with a few different search terms.

A few things to take note of while you are reading through your selected articles are: keyword placement, keyword density, keyword frequency, and the articles overall readability.

Some people also suggest placing keywords/phrases in header and sub-header text using H1 & H2 tags. I try not to go overboard with this. I only use header tags when they're necessary... Like my post titles, they are wrapped in H3 tags..

Also while studying your articles, you need to look past the words on the screen. Study the format of the entire page, pay attention to every detail... even the "alt" text in the images.

You should keep detailed notes of your research, so that you can refer back to them while writing your own articles..

One final thing I'd like to add to today's post, you don't have to follow anyone's "SEO Rules"... The above written suggestions are merely my own methods that I have used and am currently using in an attempt to gain better search engine placement for my blogs and sites. You can, and always should try out new methods.. Remember to take notes... it's the only way to really track your progress effectively.

• Free keyword tool by Google. - A pretty useful keyword research tool by Google. Tool displays the current months search volume and the advertiser competition for any given keyword or phrase.


• KeyCompete. - An online keyword research tool that identifies the keywords your competitors are using in their pay-per-click campaigns. KeyCompete also identifies the competition that is bidding on your keywords. - You can try their service out for free.


• Keyword Discovery. - KeywordDiscovery compiles keyword search statistics from over 180 search engines world wide, and claims to have the most powerful Keyword Research tool.


• Keyword Research Guide. - The folks over at WordTracker created a fictional company, Virginia Veg, and asked experts to provide real answers to the problems facing its CEO... This "project" resulted in an e-book packed with insight, tips, and techniques on keyword research that you can apply easily to your own website.


• Word Tracker Academy. - The Wordtracker Academy brings you everything you need to know about keyword research. You'll find top writers to challenge and inform, case studies to guide and inspire, and practical e-books to ensure that you get maximum return from your investment in keyword research.

It seems that Lemonade Stands are back with a new twist this year.

While sifting through Google News headlines today I came across a very interesting title, "The Death of MLM & Affiliate Marketing as We Know it?"

Naturally this caught my attention, so I decided that this article was worthy of at least a glance...

To make a long story short... I was introduced to lemonade.com. Their services are similar to that of Zlio Shops, once you register on their site, you will be able to create your own "lemonade stand".

Your lemonade stand is where you will place all of your recommended products. Your visitors will be able to sort through all of the products that you stock in your lemonade stand & will have the option of purchasing your recommended products.

When visitors shop through your stand, you keep 80% of the revenue generated and lemonade.com keeps the other 20%.

After you've got your stand all set and ready to go, you will have the option of either linking to your lemonade stand(s) or embedding them into your profile pages on sites like MySpace, Facebook, Squidoo, or any other social networking site that you might use, providing that it doesn't violate any TOS agreement that you have made.

Create a money-earning online shop in just 5 minutes.

While reading through the Google Adsense blog the other night I came across an interesting site by the name of Zlio. With Zlio, you can have your own money-earning online shop set up in a matter of minutes. All you need in order to get started is an email address and a paypal account to have your commissions deposited into.

Zlio provides a service like no other. After registering you will have the option of choosing which products you will offer in your shop. You can add as few or as many products as you wish, each product that gets sold through your shop will earn you commission. The products you get to choose from are simply amazing, Zlio has teamed up with online giants like Barnes & Noble, Adidas, 1-800-contacts, Gap, Pacsun, Sony, and over a dozen more! So you won't ever have to worry about not being able to find new, state-of-the-art products to stock your shop with.

You can also earn money with Zlio by placing Google Ads in your shops. If you're familiar with the way Adsense works on blogger, it's just as simple. You just link your adsense publisher I.D. to your shop and select where you would like to have your ads displayed. The only thing I don't like is that you only get to keep 60% of your adsense revenue, the other 40% goes to Zlio. I can live with it though, since it's free to sign up with both zlio & adsense you really have nothing to lose... I don't know about you, but a couple of extra bucks are always welcome in my account!

Earning Money with Google Adsense.

I finally got around to setting up my Google Adsense account a couple of days ago, as some of you may have noticed.

I put it off for so long because the first time I applied for the program, I was denied. I got anxious and wanted to see what the ads would look like on one of our sites so I applied for adsense with an under construction site. Which, I had to learn the hard way, Google does not look kindly upon. They sent me an email explaining why I had been denied entry into their Adsense Program and told me that I could re-apply once my site was fully functional, i.e., not under-construction.

So a few months later when we completed the site I attempted to re-apply for the Adsense program. The problem this time was that in order for us to apply for a Business Account, we needed to have a bank account in the name of the business, which at that point we still did not have. So again, I was forced to put off registering for the Adsense account.

For a while, I was under the impression that I could not register for Adsense without a business account. During this time I put Adsense on the backburner. I figured I would just get to it whenever I could.

About a month and a half later I decided to go through the motions of setting up an Adsense program yet again, this time paying close attention to detail. I figured their must've been something I missed.

I felt like a moron! This was a good reminder as to why we should always take the time out to read everything. By reading everything, as I should have done the first time around, I learned that you could sign up for the Adsense program as an individual. All you need to have is a bank account and a social security number.

How the Google Adsense program works.

The concept behind Google Adsense is an interesting one, to say the least. You earn money with Google Adsense by placing Google ads on your website or blog. How much you earn depends on how many people click on your ads. To make the ads more enticing to click on, Google automatically scans your web pages and displays ads that are relevant to the content on your site. There are other ways to earn money with Google Adsense, such as Adsense for Search, and by referring Google Products. To learn more visit the Adsense webpage.

I've read in various forums and blogs that to really earn money with Google Adsense you need to get a tremendous amount of visitors over to your site.
